I don’t enjoy beating a dead horse, but I feel the need to display this for all the masses to see.  Plus, it’s damn hilarious.

And Just Like That…

Some divine something or other must have been reading my previous post because something magical has happened.  And by magical, I mean bloody terrible.  (Yes, I said bloody).  I believe I have stumbled upon something that is *gasp* worse than anything Justin Bieber pukes out.  Let’s set the scene before I begin…

Through the greatness of Facebook and GChat, was I able to discover this gem.  Upon completion of my first viewing, I didn’t really understand what I had just heard/listened to.  So I had to go back again.  That’s when it sunk in; the “oh my god. what the fuck just happened” response.  It’s quite possibly the whitest thing the world has ever seen.  I’m not kidding.  Not to mention the lyrics are terrible.  Like, so terrible they’re hilarious.

The artist’s name is Rebecca Black and the song is titled “Friday”.  I don’t want to give out too many details in fear of ruining this adventure through the deepest, darkest corners of your insanity.  I’ll let you sit in the front seat.  So without further adieu, I give you this.

Oh, and just so you know, the song broke itunes’ top 100. *Facepalm*  I’ve had a few people disagree with me about popular music dying.  Needless to say, this song/video only proves my point.  I’m done writing.  I’m going to go rinse my eyes and ears out with acid immediately.

Christ, Where Would Rock ‘n’ Roll Be Without Feedback?

What’s happened to music?  Seriously, I’m not joking — what the hell has happened?  When I say music, I’m not referring to classical, country, techno, etc., because those particular genres have remained unchanged through time.  I’m speaking more along the lines of people’s taste in music.  I’m walking a very fine line right now discussing music and what’s in/out in today’s culture, at least in my eyes.  I don’t mean to upset anyone with my attacks on what I think is and isn’t considered “good” music.  I’m talking specifically to the “Bieber Fever”and other vomit-inducing related music fans.

How I wish, How I wish you were here

I’m proud to say that I come from a family that listens to good music.  My parents frequented many concerts before and after they had me.  I only wish I could have breathed the same air they shared with others at those venues.  They witnessed the greatness of Pink Floyd (my favorite band) five times, Crosby, Stills Nash & Young, The Moody Blues, The Beatles, The Who and many others.  The closest I’ve come to seeing Pink Floyd was Roger Waters’ “The Wall” Tour that came through Dallas in the middle of November.  I can’t even begin to tell you the experience I had, but that can wait for another blog.  The point is, my family has a good taste in music and I’m not just saying that because I’m naturally biased, it’s just the truth.   Survey people in their mid 20’s to mid 60’s and they’ll agree that the above list of acts is pretty impressive.  If flux capacitors existed and plutonium was readily available, I wouldn’t need a tricked out DeLorean to go back in time.

So that was then.

This is now.

No longer do we have epic bands such as Pink Floyd, The Beatles or The Who rocking our brains to the point of explosion.  Obviously, the older we get, the more we have to accept change; including up and coming music.  But I don’t accept the change that has happened within the past decade.  We’ve gone from bad (boy bands), to worse (Bieber).  Although, I’ll give boy bands a smidgen of credit due to the fact that they could harmonize and make shit sound alright.  But Bieber and the rest of those auto-tune princes and princesses of the music industry make me want to hurl.

Honestly, I shouldn’t really care because MY generation curses the direction popular music has taken.  But I’d like to think that the entire industry won’t be overtaken by the Jonas Brothers and Biebers of the world.  I think deep down, a majority of people who listen to music prefer what mine and others’ parents were rocking out to back in the day.  And if you dig deep enough, you’ll find that there are actually some really good bands up and coming, they’ve just taken a different route to get around the madness.

So all in all, my hope is that future Biebers and Miley Cyrus’ flame out and drift off into obscurity. One can only hope, that is.  In the mean time, keep attending local venues and buy tickets to music festivals.  Maybe those two things alone can help turn popular music around.  One day.
